Scheduling
All classes are taught virtually through Zoom.
Lexercise students take one weekly live session through Zoom (45-50 minutes) and receive access to daily online practice (approximately 15 minutes per day) that is customized for each student's needs and goals. This is a great option for families with busy schedules as the daily practice (at least 4 days per week) is highly flexible and can be done at any time the family chooses.
Students taking more traditional Orton-Gillingham style classes will meet live over Zoom at the frequency chosen by their family. Homework is available but optional.
It is highly recommended by Orton-Gillingham that students take classes at least twice a week on non-consecutive days. This is especially true if they are struggling with reading, have a dyslexia diagnosis, or have another learning disability diagnosis.
There are multiple reasons for this.
A few are as follows:
- Classes introduce new material at a pace suitable for your child. It takes time for new concepts to become part of long-term memory, and spaced, repetitive practice helps students begin internalizing the new material. When they have twice-a-week sessions they are often introduced to a new topic on Day 1. On Day 2, while the material is still fresh, they are able to practice with guidance, which moves them towards a deeper understanding of the concept.
- Meeting at least twice a week offers students the frequent and intense instruction often required for children with learning differences.
- When students need to miss a session, twice a week sessions will limit the time away by preventing multi-week gaps in instruction.
- Consistently meeting on the same days each week allows a student to develop a routine.
I understand that twice-a-week, 40 to 60-minute classes are not possible for every schedule and/or budget. I am very happy and willing to work with students in a way that suits each family.
Online classes are taught on a flexible schedule to fit parent and student schedules.
Classes are 40-60 minutes and are available during the school day or after school.
